Our Story
More Than 120 Years of Keeping Our Word
Rowan Mutual Fire Insurance Company was incorporated on January 1, 1902, as a county mutual insurance company. In an era before big national carriers reached small Piedmont towns, our founders did what neighbors here have always done: they took care of it themselves, pooling together so that when fire took one family’s home or barn, the whole community helped them rebuild.
That promise hasn’t changed in more than 120 years. We are an assessable mutual company owned entirely by our policyholders — every person we insure is a member, and our board is made up of local members from Salisbury, Mount Ulla, Woodleaf, and the surrounding communities.
Mutual, and Proud of It
No shareholders, no quarterly earnings targets. Our only obligation is to the policyholders who own the company — which keeps our rates fair and our decisions honest.
Genuinely Local
All business is handled from our office at 426 South Main Street in Salisbury. The person who answers your call can walk to the filing cabinet with your policy in it.
Built to Last
We are licensed and examined by the North Carolina Department of Insurance, and we’ve served the Piedmont through two world wars, the Depression, and every storm since 1902.
